M56182 Restoration Update

M56182 itself remains inside the storage shed at Holt awaiting a space in the yard at Weybourne for is bodywork to commence. However we are now through the best of summer so whilst we are still pushing for the vehicle to be transferred as soon as possible, it will now be spring 2016 before we start the metalwork in earnest.

However this has not slowed restoration at all with the transformation of components in the workshops ongoing. The following parts have been fully restored so far this year and stored awaiting refitting to the vehicle:

  • Train lighting switch (from cab desk)
  • Throttle controller (from cab desk)
  • Gear selector (from cab desk)
  • Two emergency passenger communication cord valves
  • Two fiberglass covers for the above valves
  • Two fiberglass gauge housings (from cab desk)
  • 16 saloon light fittings complete with reflectors (glass still to clean)
  • Fiberglass side panels from the cab which hold the light switch and the engine light panel
  • Four saloon interior sliding doors
  • Four inter-vehicle electrical jumper cables
  • The speedometer generator (fixes onto the end of the axle)
  • Four garnish rails (go below the opening windows on the passenger doors)
  • A train lighting box cover from the underframe (two more to complete)
  • The engine Air/Axle panel from the cab
The autumn period will see more components restored, and as a winter project the six exterior doors have been stripped off the vehicle last week and are ready to be transferred to the workshops for attention. Below is a selection of images showing the work above.
